Start your project in RingStock

Do this with a parent or guardian. By the end, your animal, feed, first weigh-in, and next show are in, and your advisor or leader can follow along.

Download the printable sheet (PDF) Advisors: share your class link from My class, or ringstock.online/start.html, or print the PDF. It has blanks for your name, class code, and record-book due date.
Ask your advisor or leader for their class code (you'll need it in step 2) and the date your record book is due.
  1. Get the app

iPhone: get RingStock: Show Livestock on the App Store, or search the App Store for it.

Windows PC: download RingStock for Windows.

Chromebook, Mac, or any browser: ringstock.online/app

  2. A parent or guardian creates the account

RingStock asks for a free account the first time it opens. Use an email you check, and type the class code from your advisor or leader in the Class code box, then the student's name, and check the box to OK sharing a project summary with the class. Sign in with the same account on the phone and the computer, and they share one herd. Students under 13 use the parent's sign-in. Older students can be added under Settings → Herd sharing with Can edit.

  3. Do the four setup steps

The checklist on the Home screen walks you through each one.

Add your animalTag, species, breed, sex, birth date, and a photo.
Set a feedingBuild the ration once, then set the times and amounts. Use lb or oz so the record book can add it up.
Log a weigh-inStart with the weight on the day you got the animal. Two weigh-ins start the gain curve.
Add your next showDates, entry deadline, and the prep checklist.
  4. Connect your advisor

If you typed the class code in step 2, this is done. Otherwise open Settings → Herd sharing → Join your advisor's class, type the code and the student's name, and check the parent box. Your advisor sees a project summary: animals, weigh-ins, gain, record-book progress, and upcoming shows, never your money, buyers, or contacts. No code? Type your advisor's email, choose View only, and tap Add to herd; that shares the whole herd, including expenses. Either way your advisor can't change anything, and you can stop sharing at any time.

  5. Keep it going all season

    • Weigh in every 2–4 weeks, plus right before each show.
    • Log every expense when you pay it. Put the animal's cost in the Purchase category and feed bills under Feed. Keep the receipts in a folder for the binder.
    • Record health treatments with the product, dose, and withdrawal days.
    • Add show results the day of the show, while you remember the class and placing.
    • When the animal sells, add the sale as income in the Sale category. The record book uses the purchase and sale dates.
  6. When the record book is due

Open the animal → Expenses & income → 4-H / FFA record book. Fill in your name, club, and county once. Fix anything listed under Before you print. When it says Ready to print, choose Print for the binder or Email to send the PDF and a Word copy. Check it against your county's form before you turn it in.
